Why We Love Shareable Workouts

Get the most out of your time at the gym by being deliberate about your workouts. That means thinking about your workout in advance, formulating a plan, and knowing what your routine will look like before you start. Leave that smudged and sweaty list or your phone behind. You can build your workouts in the Microsoft Health dashboard and let your Microsoft Band lead you through your paces.

Build custom workouts and share them with friends

If you haven’t yet built your own workouts, give it a try! You can do it in the Microsoft Health web dashboard. Check out this link to get the how-to guide. You can build your own Guided Workout session, or make modifications to the Guided Workouts we already have.

After you make a Guided Workout, or try an existing one that you like, you should share it. Sharing workouts can be a great way to advance your fitness goals, and all it takes is a few clicks. Involving your friends in your fitness can be  a strong motivator to stay on track and make progress. And it’s more fun. Imagine yourself in one (or all) of these scenarios:

Scenario 1: You are working out with your friends

Working out with your buddies is a great way to stay accountable and motivated. When you work out with your friends, there are a few ways it can play out:

  1. You meet at the gym and wing it. You can always just show up and say, “what are we going to do today? hmmm… let’s just jump on the elliptical and then do some weights.”
  2. You meet up at the gym with a few notes on a piece of paper or a page ripped out of a magazine, and show it to your friends.
  3. Build a custom workout in the Microsoft Health dashboard, share it with your friends, and each of you can download it to your Microsoft Band. Your bands will guide you through your workout, remind you of your reps and sets for each exercise, time your rests, and let you know when you’re finished.

While Options A and B are better than nothing, Option C allows you to take your mind off of what exercises to do and lets your band keep track of where you are in your workout. Enjoy your time with your friends and let your band do the thinking.

Scenario 2: You want to challenge your friends to do the awesome workout you just created

You might not be doing every workout with your friends, but you may want to share the workout you just finished so they can try it as well. Imagine that you created an epic leg-blasting workout, and after completing it you think, “Holy smokes! My friend Pat would love that workout.” Simply share it from your Microsoft Health dashboard, and Pat can download it to his band to enjoy in all its glory.

Scenario 3: You are working with a personal trainer

If you are working out with a personal trainer, you can share workouts with each other. You can share your past workouts with your trainer (let’s call him Dan), and Dan can build you custom workouts and share them with you. You don’t have to carry around your phone or a sheet of paper to do your workouts, because every rep, set, and rest time is on your band. After you complete your workout, you can share a summary of your results with Dan so he can keep an eye on your awesome progress.

If you have another great reason to build your own Guided Workouts and share them with others, let us know in the comments!
